Considerate Contractor Scheme
The City of London Corporation encourages building and civil engineering contractors in the City of London to work in a safe and considerate manner, with regard to pedestrians and road users.
The City of London's Considerate Contractor Scheme (CCS) challenges contractors to strive for the best standards in the industry, awarding those that consistently perform to the highest levels with an industry respected Gold Award.
The scheme is open to contractors undertaking building and civil engineering in the City of London. There is no membership fee. Members agree to follow the Code of Conduct and display the CCS signs on site. The Code of Conduct exceeds the legal minimum requirement and ensures that general standards of work are raised and the condition and safety of the City streets and pavements are improved for the benefit of everyone working, travelling through and living in the Square Mile.
If your company would like to join the CCS, complete our online membership application form.
The scores are collated quarterly and judged annually and includes public feedback. The judging panel is made up of the City’s Streetworks Team, Traffic Management Team, Resurfacing Manager, Environmental Noise Team and Access Team. The panel carries out annual site inspections alongside the regular monitoring by our Highways Officers. The Lord Mayor chairs the award ceremony.
The five principles used for scoring:
- Safety – contractors must attain the highest levels of health and safety possible
- Planning – best practice must be demonstrated with client and design team engaged
- Liaison – engagement with key stakeholders before and throughout the project
- Site Environment – protection and enhancement of the areas surrounding site
- Cleanliness – sites must be professional in appearance and well managed.
