Drop-in youth sessions

Our drop-in youth sessions are somewhere for young people to relax in a safe and friendly environment staffed by qualified youth workers. We offer access to trips, activities and the Summer Youth Programme each year.

Our providers include: SocietyLinks and Prospects. Our providers have been commissioned to deliver activities and sessions for range of young people from as young as six up to 19 years old (up to 25 years old for young people with SEND) in the City of London at Golden Lane Community Centre, Middlesex Street and Mansell Street.

About our providers

The City of London Corporation has commissioned SocietyLinks to provide a needs-led youth service designed to reflect the priorities and lived experiences of local children, young people and families.

The service is inclusive, flexible and has been shaped in partnership with young people themselves.

It supports young people aged 8–19 (up to 25 for those with SEND or who are care-experienced).

The service provides safe, welcoming and age-appropriate spaces where young people can build confidence, develop life skills, and improve their wellbeing through engaging and meaningful activities.

A key focus of the service is to ensure that there is access for all, including young people with SEND, those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), and those not in education, employment or training (NEET). Tailored support is also available where needed.

The provider will work collaboratively with schools, health partners, community organisations and other commissioned services to strengthen early help pathways and align with the Best Start Family Hub - City of London

The youth service will be delivered across three areas:

Universal Youth & Play

Open-access sessions will be delivered at Golden Lane and Portsoken Community Centres for young people aged 8–19 (up to 25 with SEND).

This will offer a wide range of activities including sports, creative arts, workshops and informal youth work designed to support personal development, wellbeing and life skills. The service will follow national youth work standards and ensure inclusive, accessible opportunities for all young people, including both City residents and those from neighbouring areas.

Information, Advice and Guidance

This service will support young people aged 13–19 (up to 25 with SEND) to make informed decisions about education, employment and training.

It will provide personalised support such as CV writing, interview preparation and progression planning, with a particular focus on young people with additional needs. The service will also track and support those not in education or training, contributing to the City’s ambition to reduce NEET figures.

Youth Participation and Voice

Young people aged 8–25 will have opportunities to shape services and influence decision-making through the City Youth Forum.

This will support young people to develop leadership skills, campaign on issues that matter to them, and engage with local decision-makers. It will also promote wider participation, with a focus on including underrepresented groups and ensuring diverse voices are heard.
