Street trading

Date updated: 6/10/2025

You must apply for a Street Trading Licence to sell goods in a public street or place within the Square Mile. Street Trading is not permitted on any public street or place within the City of London, with the exception of Middlesex Street (Petticoat Lane Market) which contain the only market stalls in the City of London.

There is currently a waiting list for market stalls at Middlesex Street (Petticoat Lane Market). To register your interest and be added to the waiting list please contact us by email.

Temporary Street Trading may be permitted at City Events. You must apply for a Temporary Licence, as set out in the City Corporation's Street Trading Policy, which can be found below. These licences have strict terms and conditions which must be met for a licence to be granted.

If you want to find out about wholesale food markets in the City of London please visit our Markets page.
