You are required to apply for and maintain a club premises certificate for the purchase and supply of alcohol and the provision of regulated entertainment, by members, for members or guests of the club. We will only authorise a club premises certificate to a qualifying club.

The fee you must pay for your application is set by the government and is linked to the rateable value of your premises.

Please make sure that you have read and understood the City of London’s Statement of Licensing Policy and guidance notes for applicants before completing your application.

You must apply to us for a club premises certificate to authorise the supply of alcohol and regulated entertainment in a qualifying club. In a qualifying club there is technically no sale by retail of alcohol (except to guests) because members of the club already own all the assets of the club, including the alcohol. The money exchanged is to preserve equity between members, where one may consume more than another.

Apply for a new club premises certificate from City of London

You must inform us of any change to the name or registered address of your club or if any alterations are made to the club rules. You must do this both before an application is determined or after a certificate has been issued.

Notify us of change of details or alteration to club rules

You may apply to us at any time to add or extend an activity on a certificate, change the conditions of a certificate or amend the plan/layout of the premises.

A variation application is subject to the same process as that for a new certificate. Please make sure that you have read and understood the City of London’s Statement of Licensing Policy and guidance notes for applicants before completing your application.

Apply for a variation to your club premises certificate

You may apply to us at any time for a minor variation of their certificate. A minor variation is a change to a certificate that does not affect the promotion of the licensing objectives.

If we consider that the variation could have an adverse impact on any of the four licensing objectives, we will reject your application. In such cases, you are advised to submit a full variation application.
