Shoe Lane Library provides a sanctuary in the heart of the Square Mile, engaging workers, residents and students alike with a space to read, sit and study. The library offers books, spoken word recordings, CDs and DVDs as well as a dynamic children's library area, open to all.

There is some limited on-street disabled parking nearby. This includes:
- Free for up to 4 hours on weekdays when displaying a Blue Badge.
- 2x spaces East Harding Street (100m from Library)
- 2x spaces Gough Square (160m from Library)
- 1x space Little New Street (just next to Library)
- Free for up to 6 hours nearby to St Bartholomew’s Hospital. (No time limit at weekends). Distance from St Bartholomew’s to Shoe Lane Library is 400m.
- Paths are generally paved as typical within the City of London. However, the neighbourhood around Shoe Lane currently has construction and building works taking place, and alternative and temporary walking routes may be in use.
- Library is located on the basement level, but entrance at ground level provides step‑free access with two lifts down to the Library available for public use.
- Alternatively there are stairs with handrails on both sides.
- Entrance doors are sensor‑operated, and open automatically as soon as you approach.
- Shoe Lane Library does not officially provide public toilet facilities during normal opening hours.
- However during events a wheelchair accessible toilet is available. It also includes baby‑changing facilities.
- Toilet room size: 1.7m x 3.3m. Corridor width and doorway 1.15m. The door to this accessible toilet area is a heavy fire door. Staff are always happy to help.
