ESOL courses
Learn to speak, read and write English as a second language.
We offer ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) at five different levels. From Pre-entry, for beginners, to Level Two, for advanced pronunciation and grammar.
Pre-entry Level
Begin to speak, read and write English. Learn to use and understand simple language.
Entry Level One
Use new vocabulary and simple grammar that will help you ask and answer simple questions, ask and give travel information, make an appointment with the doctor and ask for medicines at the chemist.
Entry Level Two
Express feelings, wishes and interests with increasing confidence. Read and write formal letters, improve your job prospects by writing a CV, and a personal statement, fill in forms for job applications and ask for and give information about jobs.
Entry Level Three
Confidently hold conversation on familiar topics with fluency. Increasingly become aware of mistakes and self-correct. Read, plan and write formal letters, reports and suporting statements. Write longer text using complex sentences and read simple newspaper articles and other texts.
Level One
Confidently participate in everyday and work-related conversations using a wide range of vocabulary. Develop your skills to give presentations and talks. Develop your pronunciation.
Level Two
Job-specific vocabulary. Polish your pronunciation and grammar in more advanced everyday contexts.
This beginner ESOL course helps you build simple English for everyday use. You will practise speaking, listening, reading and writing through topics such as health, shopping and using services. You should already understand a few words in English.
Progression route: Entry Level 2 ESOL Award.

This beginner ESOL course helps you build simple English for everyday use. You will practise speaking, listening, reading and writing through topics such as health, shopping and using services. You should already understand a few words in English.
Progression route: Entry Level 2 ESOL Award.

Designed for learners who can already use basic English, this course develops confidence in giving personal information, making requests, asking for help and handling simple forms. You will improve your grammar, pronunciation and writing for everyday communication.
Progression route: Entry Level 3 ESOL Award.

This course supports learners with basic English to improve their grammar, sentence structure, and ability to take part in everyday conversations. Topics include work, education, health and public services. It prepares learners for more fluent use of English in real-life situations.
Progression route: Level 1 Award in ESOL.

This course is for learners who have a good grasp of everyday English and want to develop more formal and accurate speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. You’ll work on grammar, vocabulary, discussion skills and understanding longer texts.
Progression route: Level 2 ESOL or Functional Skills English Level 1.

An advanced ESOL course for learners aiming to develop academic or professional English. You’ll practise longer texts, structured writing, and presentations. This course is ideal preparation for IELTS or Functional Skills English Level 2.
Dates: Mondays and Wednesdays - 13 April - 8 July
Time: 5 - 7.30pm

Fee per term: Fully Funded (depending on eligibility) *Full-fee payable for anyone earning the London living wage or above
To be eligible for funding on our free courses you should be a UK national or an EEA national with pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme and have been resident in the UK/EEA for the past three years. Proof may be required, more information about this is on the enrolment form.
