Barbican Estate project updates

The fire signage project has resumed.

The City of London Corporation is commencing with works to Bunyan Court, with works across the estate to follow. Please email the Property Services Team if there you have any queries about this project.

The City of London Corporation is progressing with the fire door installation project across the Barbican Estate. This includes front entrance doors, communal corridor fire doors, electrical intake cupboard doors, and any secondary fire escape doors from flats.

Designs are being progressed alongside close consultation with the relevant conservation/heritage bodies. Please email the Property Services Team if you have any queries.

The City of London Corporation will carry out a major modernisation project for the lifts across the Barbican Estate. 

Designs are to be progressed starting with Lauderdale, Cromwell, and Shakespeare Towers, followed by the other blocks across the estate. Works to the Towers are anticipated to commence early 2027.

The City of London Corporation is progressing with a renewal programme of the roofs, balconies, and rainwater goods, in tandem with a window repairs programme. The combined works are known as the building envelope strategy. This project is for Ben Jonson House, Bunyan Court, Defoe House, and The Postern. 

Designs for all the above elements are to be progressed and coordinated by a lead architect to ensure design consistency, compliance with statutory requirements (including Listed Building Management Guidelines), and robust warranties.
